In September 2020, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) launched the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) to support the development of energy efficient and heat decarbonisation projects. With a budget of £1billion to spend on energy saving projects, what has been going on so far?

Successes

So far, the scheme seems to be doing well!  317 public sector organisations have been granted funding for 429 energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation projects. Together, these projects are valued at £932 million!

At  present, the largest proportion of the funds (£154,291,815) has been awarded to projects in the Yorkshire and Humber area and as for the south west – the home of Wessex Eco Energy – £109,473,503 of the budget has been granted.

South West Projects

In the south west of England, 57 projects have so far been approved.  Numerous councils have got onboard with the scheme including: Devon, Dorset, Gloucester, Plymouth, Torbay and more.

Dorset Council alone has been granted £18,791,674 to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings which is a positive move in line with their climate and ecological emergency.
