Solar Somerset

Is the idea of solar just an eco-trend that is just a waste of time? Is it really sunny enough in the UK for solar to even work?
With so much information out there on the internet, it is sometimes difficult to get to the bottom of whether solar panels really are a good investment or not. Unless you happen to know someone who can vouch that they have made savings since having solar installed in their Somerset home, it can be difficult to make that final leap to spend money getting them to put in.
There are various concerns and misconceptions that are repeated about solar panels but the one that is raised most is the question of south-facing homes.
So, does a house need to be fully south facing? What about southeast facing? What if it faces southwest?
Your house does not necessarily need to be completely south facing. What it does need is regular access to sunlight. If your property is often in the shade, because of the position of nearby buildings, or you live in a place where there are lots of tall trees overshadowing and blocking out the sunlight, PV panels would obviously be much less effective and perhaps not recommended.

Solar Somerset – is it worth it?

Solar in Somerset is definitely not a waste of time. The further south you live in the country the better the idea of having solar panels installed becomes. If you look at the official UK solar radiation map the county of Somerset fares quite in terms of sunshine hours.
To get the optimal amount of energy from the sun, the sun needs to be shining directly onto the panels. If the sun is beaming down at an angle then, of course, the efficiency won’t be quite the same. However, the sun moves from East to West during the day so for most homes, the sun will be at an angle for most of the time, regardless.
Being as close as possible to south facing is only once factor. A roof facing east or west could still provide you with enough savings to warrant getting solar installed in Somerset.
Before installing Solar Somerset Wessex Eco will always do a full assessment to analyse your individual situation and we look forward to working on any projects that can help save you money on your energy costs.
